March 24th, 2008 - Since the Bash got postponed and Clarksville added a second night of racing for modifieds, we decided to load up the cars and make the 4 1/2 hour trek down south. We were finally able to hit the track after a long offseason as things didn't go as planned.
The 18M had power steering issues the entire night on Friday which was unfortunate as Matt only got to drive a few laps in hot laps. He was forced to miss qualifying and his heat due to the problems. Matt tagged the back of the B main and did a great job but was unable to go anywhere due to the track having one lane.
Friday night was my first night in the Pierce car and it is a 180 degree difference compared to last year. I went out in hot laps and the car felt real fast as long as I drove it correctly. We were able to qualify 4th fastest in our group which put me on the outside of the 2nd row in my heat. About 5 laps into the heat, I was underneath the 3rd place car when he about spun out and hit me in the process. This took us both into the infield and back out onto the track without losing any spots but it bent up the front end which made the car go backwards. We ended up 5th, one out of a transfer spot for the $2000 to win. We had to thrash on the car to get it straightened up for the b main which forced me to start towards the rear and I was unable to make it back up to a transfer spot.
Saturday started out a lot better for Matt in the 18M as he had a good qualifying position. The same could not be said for me as I qualified near the rear of the field. Matt and I were both in the same heat and it was going well for him as he was in a transfer position until a car got loose in front of him forcing him to drop a couple of spots. Matt was able to hang on to 4th and I got 7th, so we were both heading to a B-main. I started at the tail of the B main and Matt was in the inside of the second row. At the start Matt was able to pick off the front row and coast to a B Main victory. I on the other hand, didn't have it quite as easily as we had to get a top five in order to make the show. On the last lap, I snuck underneath the 5th place car which allowed both the 22M and the 18M to make the feature.
As we pulled out for the feature we noticed the track had gotten extremely black and slick so it didn't look like we were going to be able to do much passing as the preferred line was on the bottom. Matt started 16th and I started shotgun in the 20th position. The night ended with Matt in 10th and I finished up in 15th. Overall it was a good start to the season and we are looking forward to heading to Western Kentucky Speedway next weekend!!

See ya there!
